Description

Tajweed Rules for Adults Book 2 by Manarah Publishing is the second volume in the Madinah Tajweed Series - the comprehensive, systematically structured Tajweed curriculum for adult learners. For students who have completed Book 1 and established a solid foundation in makharij al-huruf (articulation points), Book 2 introduces the first and most consequential rule family in all of Tajweed: the rules governing noon sakinah and tanween. Why are these rules so important? Because noon sakinah (a noon carrying sukun) and tanween (the double-vowel endings: fathatan, kasratan, and dammatan) appear across hundreds of words on virtually every page of the Quran. Mastering these rules is not optional for anyone who wants to read the Quran correctly - they are foundational to correct recitation at every level, from the shortest Surah to the longest passage.Book 2 covers all four rules of noon sakinah and tanween in full:Rule 1 - Ithhar (Clear Pronunciation): when noon sakinah or tanween is followed by one of the six throat letters (hamzah, ha', 'ayn, ghayn, kha', ha), the noon must be pronounced clearly and distinctly, without any nasal quality or merging with the following letter. Book 2 teaches students to identify these letters in any Quranic context and to apply ithhar cleanly and consistently.Rule 2 - Idgham (Merging): when noon sakinah or tanween is followed by one of six specified letters (ya, nun, mim, waw, lam, ra), the noon merges into the following letter. This rule has two sub-types: idgham with ghunnah (nasal merging, for ya, nun, mim, and waw) and idgham without ghunnah (complete merging, for lam and ra). The important exception - that idgham does NOT apply when noon sakinah and the idgham letter appear in the same word - is explained and practiced carefully.Rule 3 - Ikhfa' (Concealment): the most frequently occurring of the four rules. When noon sakinah or tanween is followed by any of fifteen specified letters, the noon is held in a nasal position - neither fully pronounced (as in ithhar) nor fully merged (as in idgham) - while the mouth prepares for the following letter. The result is a sound between noon and the following letter. Ikhfa' requires the most practice of the four rules and receives the most attention in Book 2.Rule 4 - Iqlab (Changing): when noon sakinah or tanween is followed by ba, the noon transforms into a nasal meem sound, held with ghunnah before the ba is articulated. Though the least frequent of the four rules, iqlab is one of the easiest to miss and one of the most distinctive when heard correctly. All four rules are taught through clear, accessible explanation appropriate for adult learners, with diagrams, Quranic examples from Juz' Amma and the broader Quran, and structured exercises that build both understanding and automaticity. Book 2 is an essential step in the path toward beautiful, correct Quran recitation.
