Description
Sulayman ibn Al-Ash'ath Al-Azdi Al-Sijistani is his name but people know him as Imam Abu Dawood. He was born in the year 202 AH in a place called Sijistan. Imam Abu Dawood became an important person in Islamic scholarship. He spent his life trying to find every word that the Prophet Muhammad ever spoke. His book, the Sunan is still one of the important collections of Hadith in Islam.
There is a book about Imam Abu Dawood called Imam Abu Dawood: The Hadith Scholar of Basra. It is part of a series of books called the Sunnah Scholars Series by Manarah Publishing. This series is about the lives of men and women who dedicated their lives to preserving the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad.
The book about Imam Abu Dawood tells us about his life from when he was a child in Sijistan to when he traveled around the Islamic world to find true stories about the Prophet. It also tells us about the time he spent with Hadith masters and how he put together his book, the Sunan. One of the interesting things about Imam Abu Dawood is how careful he was about making sure the stories he collected were true. He would. Double-check the people who told him the stories and the chains of transmission. He only accepted stories that met his standards.
Imam Abu Dawood did a lot of work in his life. He collected about 500,000 Hadith, looked at each one carefully and chose the 4,800 that he thought were the most true to include in his Sunan. He said that his book was enough to guide anyone who wanted to follow the religion. The way he carefully chose which stories to include and which to leave out is a lesson for all of us.
The book Imam Abu Dawood: The Hadith Scholar of Basra talks about things including:
* His early life, education and the scholars who taught him
* His travels to places like Arabia, Khurasan, Iraq, Egypt and beyond to find true stories about the Prophet
* His relationship with Hadith masters, like Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, who he became a student and friend of
* How he put together his book, the Sunan Abu Dawood. Why it is still important today
* His time in Basra, where he was invited to live and teach. How he changed the citys scholarly life
* What we can learn from his life like the importance of loving knowledge being willing to sacrifice for it and understanding that preserving the Prophets words is a way of worshiping
This book is part of the Sunnah Scholars Series by Manarah Publishing. It is about the people who preserved Islam. It is, for the people who will carry on their legacy.
